2009
Virginia Jaguar Club
Concours d'Elegance

VJC Concours is coming September 19th 2009

The 11th annual Virginia Jaguar Club Concours d'Elegance for 2009 is Saturday, September 19th. PLEASE NOTE A CHANGE IN VENUE FOR THIS YEAR'S EVENT!

Instead of holding the VJC Concours within the larger Central Virginia British Car Club's (CVBCC) show on Brown's Island on Sunday, September 20th as originally advertised, we are starting a new tradition by staging it on Fountain Square in the historic Shockoe Slip area of downtown Richmond, on September 19, the afternoon before.

Shockoe Slip, near Brown's Island, is the city's oldest mercantile district and was once the site of the State Capitol building. This area has been a bustling hub since the 17th century. Though the earliest buildings here were destroyed during the Civil War, original cobblestones and structures dating from 1868-1888 make this beautiful and historic area a perfect place for sightseeing. Shockoe also offers shopping, dining and entertainment and has become the nightspot of choice for Richmonders.

VJC Show Area shown here
The show will be held in the fountain area to the right in this picture just off of Cary Street in Shockoe Slip

Jaguars exclusively will be featured on Saturday in Shockoe slip. The VJC Concours will be held in the more elegant and sanitary environment on the historic cobblestones of this historic Richmond venue. As in years past, the same high quality of JCNA judging standard and accuracy will be applied to all participants. Parking and placement will begin around the fountain at 2:00 PM, with "rags down" by 3:00 PM. Judging will then commence, to be completed by 5:00-5:30 PM.

Another addition to this year's program will be a change in venue for our traditional Saturday night dinner. Concours entrants, club members and other Jaguar enthusiasts will gather at Sam Miller's Restaurant at 7:00 pm for a great meal followed by the presentation of awards by Concours Chairman Steve Kelley and Chief Judge, Wayne Estrada. You do not need to be present to receive an award but this banquet will be the most fun and memorable way.

If you are planning on attending the dinner and have not received information in the mail, you may register your intentions to committee member Lisa Sweet ( lakesidesweety @ hotmail.com ) and request your banquet reservation form. You do NOT have to be entered in the VJC Concours to come to the banquet, however you must pre-register to attend and provide your desired food selection IN ADVANCE so that the restaurant can prepare.

As always, even though there has been a change in dates and venue for this years VJC Concours d'Elegance, if you are a JCNA member, this is still an officially sanctioned event that will count towards national point totals.

Last but not least, you are encouraged to support our friends in the Central Virginia British Car Club and their charity by participating in the annual "Classics on the James" car show on Sunday, Sept. 20th. This big show honors all classic British and European-made automobiles featuring this year the MG - the quintessential British Car. Go to their website (www.cvbcc.com) for information and a registration form. Their designated show hotel is the nearby Crowne Plaza and participants should ask for the special rate. Car washing facilities will be available in the hotel parking deck.

Letter from the President about this Year's Concours

Welcome to the 2009 VJC Concours and Jaguar car show. Please support the VJC by bringing your Jaguar to the Concours (if you want it judged for JCNA points) or just give it a wash and bring it to the show for everyone to enjoy. The event will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 19th at our new venue of the historic water fountain circle in Richmond's historic Shockoe Slip. The VJC Concours is a JCNA sanctioned event for those wanting JCNA points. VJC car show participants must register with VJC in order to participate. As opposed to year's past, day of show registrations ARE allowed, on a SPACE AVAILABLE basis only. Pre registration is strongly recommended. The registration form is available by clicking on the link in the left sidebar of this page.

If you also wish to enter your Jaguar in the CVBCC show the following day on Brown's Island (Sunday September 20th) a separate registration is required. Please go to the CVBCC website at http://www.cvbcc.com to register for that show. The CVBCC show has become a classic "must see" show on the Eastern Seaboard--one that you will not want to miss.

For anyone out of town, CVBCC has arranged for a special rate at the Crowne Plaza at 555 E Canal. CVBCC also offers a hospitality suite at the Crowne Plaza, for sharing LBC stories and tales. Ask at the front desk for the suite number. Free food and drink is provided for all British Car enthusiasts! . Cost to enter the general European Car Show is $35 per car.

Please let me know by Wednesday, September 9th if you plan to attend the dinner via email to davidmharrison2003@yahoo.com or call me at 804-748-4601. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Again, pre registration for the dinner is required along with your menu selection to attend. Sorry, but no day of event accomodations can be made if you do not let me know in advance on attending the banquet.

NOTE: Last minute registration for the European Car Show entrance can NOT be done at the gate, so please register early!

Looking forward to seeing you and your Jaguar at this year's event.
